Chapter Twenty-Seven: Shooting Stars
“Cover your eyes!” Reilly shouted before he registered the
silence surrounding them. He wished he had spoken more softly.
A terrific sandstorm whirled about and obscured their view.
They shielded their eyes with both arms and squinted at the endlessly swirling,
silently colliding white particles. The sand did not feel harsh against their
skin—to their surprise, it was as soft as silk. Reilly breathed in deeply and
noticed that it was easy to do so. This was no ordinary sand.
“It’s beautiful!” Lottie whispered. “It sparkles like
millions of delicate diamonds.”
